yes, no bethesda game is perfect, a lot of them being far from. however, this little gem right here is damn near perfect, provided your hardware is competent and that doesn’t take an incredible amount of money to do. from the inception of this game, released on november 11th, 2011… that’s 11/11/11 for those of you who forgot how epic that is, you could kind of tell that with iterations ending in a gratis version for those that followed them with their wallets and their hearts that bethesda was trying to create something special here. i spent the time applying mod after mod within my p.c.’s capability and decided to ditch vortex for the time being and let these people be them. i know i vacillate violently when it comes to my taste in video games but i don’t know what to think. if your intention is for me to modify the video game to my taste why make it so picture perfect? at that the end of the day this is a three pointer from half court on bethesda’s part so turn everything up…. and don’t you dare mod it. see the majority of us who love these fantasy games are looking for a full experience no matter what character in the roster we play along with origin story without realize the fact that’s it like programming 3 video games and getting paid once. vacillating once again. yes, nexus mods does have a paid service where they will allow you to adopt the loadouts of certain respected members of the community and yes, in many cases it does result in a more interesting experience, but also a very skewed, off balanced one which sends you running back to the aesthetic remakes and not dealing with the frustrating alternate dreams of somebody that’s half killing half shilling, ya know, there are a few out there worth playing. but then there’s the arrogance and the half assed execution. so is this service worth your 10 dollars a month, certainly. is it the next coming of Christ? hell no.
so here’s the real skinny… nexus mods is under new management and this is causing a mass exodus of site creators… why you ask, i gleaned this off the interwebs.
Key Reasons for Modder Departures:
- Policy Changes (Archiving vs. Deleting): A major point of contention was Nexus Mods’ policy change preventing authors from permanently deleting mods, forcing them to archive them instead. Some authors felt this was an infringement on their control over their work, leading to departures.
- Monetization Fears & New Ownership: Recent acquisition by new owners raised concerns about aggressive monetization (e.g., slower free downloads, paid mods). While new owners promised to keep mods free and reduce ads, these fears spurred some authors to leave.
- Control & Ownership: Authors dislike their work being bundled into large modpacks (like Wabbajack) without direct control or recognition (endorsements/downloads).
- Moderation & Community Culture: Some modders have left due to conflicts with moderators or perceived censorship of topics/language on the site, feeling the community culture was shifting negatively.
- Shift to Other Platforms: Many creators now prefer platforms like Discord or Patreon, where they can have more direct relationships with users, better control, and sometimes direct financial support, even if discovery can be harder.
the blame game never gets old…
