i think i’ve spoken enough about it until you fully understand how much i love my switch OLED, which just happens to be holding steady at it’s well worth it 350$ american. personally i don’t even feel cheated that my entire library of games on that device is digital and cost me 60 dollars a game. if you know how to set it up you have one set of games on your switch lite for on the go and another set on your original switch or switch oled… (and pick up that grip that I recommended for the switch OLED by mamba, it really makes it a ten times better device…) so use the OLED for home, travel, and when you’re somewhere where you won’t look completely awkward with this huge device. I really want a deck but y’all know my money is funny but I will get there, second iteration or not. this right here is a statistical exercise in how thoroughly that nintendo can cut costs by passing them on to the consumer. some terse facts you need to know about this device before next month. firstly, just so you know, the switch oled has a beautiful, 7 inch screen and with that grip and the case that comes sold separately on amazon from the same company holding it together… it’s a steam deck for the young and simple. the games are fleshed out and full experiences. the indie section of the store is robust with all types of oddities, you have the choice whether you want to game on physical media or not. the games cost 60$ american and less. the nintendo switch 2 is making its debut next month at a gut wrenching 499$ american, it doesn’t have an OLED screen even though the screen has a 7.9 inch diagonal and a 120 hz refresh rate. the build looks like it still is going to need some third party grip to keep the thing from snapping in two. I haven’t seen the games but if they think they are going to land an uppercut on the steam deck even with the new hardware and 1080p screen with that 120hz refresh rate they got another thing coming. basically, this is fan service for early adopters and if things go like they should with a company we love now is the time to get your switch OLED… it’s capable of resolutions up to 1080p… it supports physical media which can be had at gamestop for a 20 dollar discount used after a couple of months… with that grip on it, especially if you don’t use your switch as a home console its a great accessory and what is supposed to happen is that after this gold digger of a console is released is her sweet little sister has her little puberty sprout and gets a 50 dollar price reduction. nintendo has established themselves as creative alchemists of the digital muse, skeptical? let’s consider what is felt to be one of their most serious failures… the wii u. the console had a 720p resolution, but even with that weak, non competitive hardware, nintendo chose to split the signal between the tv screen and the diminutive touch sensitive screen in the controller… that makes no sense though… if you weren’t getting high in the stairway during science class you know that for us to see in 3D, it requires two sighted eyes seeing similar divergent images… thus came the 3DS. then the iteration that moved the paradigm with an extremely simple hand held computer that influenced the market and was capable of displaying and being played through a self contained touch sensitive screen and being plugged into a dock and relaying a tv signal, the switch… troll on, they will never be valve and i think they know this. of course the suits are going to have to see the quarterlies first but any other way let’s hope this isn’t a huge mistake that nobody is excited for, especially with the games costing 80 and 90$ american retail. so that’s my two cents about the matter, and there i leave it for you to decide where you stand on june 5th. no. i will say this, why is everybody worried about this thing when the economy is on the verge of imploding? basically, the way i see it as a slow business major, our currency is too strong to make it worthwhile for anybody to trade with us. if you are lucky enough to be able to cover your expenses and save a little, wouldn’t it make sense to do so. i don’t but i’m just putting it out there. it’s been over two decades and the victims of 9/11 still commemorate the disaster that took the lives of 3,000 of their loved ones. corona virus killed approximately one million americans… there are only 330,000,000 of us to kill… so if my horrible math is correct, the deal with 9/11 was the incredible spectacle of an imploding skysraper. the COVID virus was one in 330 americans murdered by a microscopic viral demon. and while this was going on, nurses having nervous breakdowns, cooler trucks full of corpses being parked outside of hospitals because there was no place else to put them… everybody not dying was staring at their cell phones playing “who wants to buy a playstation 5,” completely oblivious. will i feel their pain, who knows… but i figured that i’d include a small reality check.
one love,
ummi
