sometimes i get reminded why i love this hobby so much that is so far out of my price range… there is a new, for all i know, free sequel… provided you bought the original lords of the fallen… and they are sippin’ hard on that dark souls kool aid.

total transparency, when the first lords of the fallen hit i played it for a few weeks, found it obtuse and difficult, and forgot about it on my hard drive. now it seems, working with nvidia on some experimental supersampling that makes the 30gig sequel look like a 100gig AAA game… well the truth of the matter is that the original game was programmed by a team that i’d never heard of named deck 13 and this version is programmed by a developer by the name of hexworks that i’ve also never heard of… probably operating from somewhere between your chronograph in the matrix if you get my drift but if this first impression is lasting, this title is eventually in for the cult following they expect. i mean there’s a choice of about 8 player characters, all with their terminally cool quirks but before you yell shill, there is this crazy weird mechanic where you hold up your blue flamed lantern and traverse astral planes and this mechanic is necessary to get to certain areas of the environment but the fact of the matter remains that even if i wanted to spoil this peyote fueled anomaly for you i couldn’t. you’ve been around for a while… can you believe this thing has been around since 2023, i’m assuming if you bought the first one you get 2.0 gratis, beat the first boss in one try, like i said… i know who i’m dealing with here. can you believe this? i am straight up negligent. I have that thing going on like your wife does when she boxes up old clothing for goodwill and finds a pair of pumps that she used to wear everyday because she loved them so much… yeah, but as a 46 year old boy. if this is your first hear-tell of a new developer seriously deepening the plot of this game and providing it free for the disappointed gamers who bought it the first time, welcome to the club. i like to call it “trickle down gamernomics,” especially when the game is a AA and above experience because these whales will fund the living crap out of it just because they can. Joe Biden had nothing to do with this. it was actually a monetary policy posited by Ronald Reagan, and has to do with economies of scale and macro businesses patronizing microbusinesses, because, let’s face it folks… the rich are always going to be rich. the tax cuts are racist and apathetic but beggars can’t be choosers so i use it now to refer to this trivia because almost everything i discuss on this site is trivial. if you have a steam account, where is where most hardcore p.c.s start, off the top of my head i can think of a few choices.

  • LET IT DIE
  • Path Of Exile
  • Path of Exile 2
  • America’s Army: Proving Grounds (yes, in addition to the deal that it has with Activision, the Army has their own, free to play on steam, video game, one shot one kill, friendly fire, recruiting tool… when i played it, the dudes online were hardcore.)

under 15 dollars but very easy on the hardware and very fun provided you don’t mind bots.

  • Left 4 Dead
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Black Mesa, (an, approved by valve, independent developer, remake of the first Half Life.)
  • Half life 2, (just received an official facelift from valve, still same price. includes episode one and two also touched up a bit.)
  • Portal One (hilarious)
  • Portal Two(also hilarious)

by the way, i’m very proud of the fact that despite being a loser i did power through the first portal, remember those meaningless problem solving tests and all the coddling you got in grade school? no offense if you’re not intelligent enough to be an adult… (looking in the mirror,) but remember when you finally realized that intelligence can be succinctly categorized as the ability to learn quickly and retain information (academic,) and possessing above average muscle memory (athlete,) not mutually exclusive, a fact i hate. but basically it’s one of those misleading tests with an ai constantly insulting your intelligence as you work your way through a litany of increasingly cryptic puzzles, it’s about ten bucks though. those other three listed at the very top are totally and absolutely free if you have the hardware to run them, the most gentle on p.c. hardware being the first Path Of Exile with the most heavy on microtransactions, but still fun if your a bit of a sociopath being LET IT DIE.

enjoy,

the ummi
