if you didn’t know, and were into the benefits of clean audio files, cd quality apple music store purchases are now drm free. i know, i’m late.

i’ve been sleeping under a rock for the past five years, for real. anyway, i bought a few now drm free tracks off of the apple music store because i’m not trying to go over my budget even though i did anyway and there were really only a few that i really have that itch to listen to. it was also a beautiful thing that the majority of my existing purchased apple library was also available on my surfans F20 dap player. this is not a playlist because i believe that daps are extra british fastidious on everybody rules the world by tears for fears… plus the ridicule of the F20 was equal to the praise so i didn’t know what to think before i purchased it. so basically i ended up purchasing the F20 because i didn’t want to be on the hook for a year and a half with the micro loan company that i deal with and that sony ANW 306. there’s a more exhaustive run down in the previous article. now here’s the deal. the surfans F20 is capable of sound resolution up to 192Khz/24bit, i’ve heard under the right circumstances 384Khz/32 bit but you’ll have difficulty enough finding 192 and unless you’re a gifted musician that’s plenty. if the interwebs is to be believed a lossless file on the apple music store is also lossless on a dap, the format and frequency just aren’t explicitly listed. it also has a line out for an amp if you are truly a musician and that feature would have some utility for you. i asked microsoft copilot what headphones would pair nicely with the device at its price point and level of fidelity. it recommended the oneodio studio pro 10 dj monitors on sale at amazon. if you weren’t one of us fools with over the ear headphones on a new york city train i can understand the lack of appreciation for immersive sound and jay walking to be fair and as i asked question after question, copilot began to note my preferred devices and seemingly attempt to upsell me as well… but microsoft has done way worse in the past. now the other entry level dac player that i was interested in was the sony NW A306. it supports 384Khz/32 bit audio reproduction and that is definite overkill and it also doesn’t have a line out jack. if you create music on occasion and have need for this feature, there is no reason for you to spend 350$ on this puppy, next sku up at a 450$ premium. since i’m not as OCD with my music as i was in my teens and early twenties, i purchased this track off of the apple store which, if you didn’t see it the first time, now offers it’s CD quality offerings DRM free now, pretty much fully retroactively, lovely… seriously. but this tears for fears classic, as much of a call to action as it is a song. is still relevant today, even if the composers themselves broke up in the 90’s, according to copilot they released a new recording in 2022. but this will always be one of those songs that is truly special and speaks to the hearts of generations staring down the angry gaze of extinction. i suggest you pick it up. everybody wants to rule the world has to be one of the most cathartic, thoughtfully written, beautiful examples of eighties pop you’ve ever heard especially if you remember the cold war as a child. i try not to overdo it, but the tunes keep calling me.
