this all started with the game that we all loved to hate, dark souls. Durante, one of the most notable of the community that probably got a considerable check, if not job offers from from soft or nvidia for this wonder of a tweak, probably had no idea where this was going to go when they coded it. I’ve always dealt exclusively in nvidia cards so excuse me if that’s what i’m referring to you about. the DLSS feature in nvidia’s new rtx cards basically allows your monitor to run at an internal resolution above the native resolution of the monitor… is it the same thing as having an actual decent 4k monitor? check back with me in a few months. i just found it funny, and fascinating the way this huge conglomerate of a company adopted a game changing feature from a regular ol’ coder. more and more games are supporting dlss now and its making 21:9 monitors relevant. excuse me if i’m mistaken but in a community of intellectual narcissists who must be on the bleeding edge of what they work and play with features like that move units. you hear me? your still going to have issues here and there with games who neglect to program this feature in and games with sprites but the race to do the dishes in the p.c. world has begun with this. I have 2 monitors, 200$ American a piece, 25 inch diagonals, one standard 1920 x1080, the other dirt cheap LG 2560 x 1080 which i used to hate with a passion but now i love, nothing crazy. I’ve had them for about 3, 4 years. if you can find one around your price range, or even better if you have an aging computer which gives you reason to upgrade and its nvidia, it has to be dlss, especially if your part of the 1 percent ultra widescreen collective. however i have to qualify this by saying that i treat my computer fairly gently… i do stuff like wait for 15 years for a game that i used to love to be remade… or maniacally check for nvidia driver updates… so be you. don’t expect to get 300hz locked in on cyberpunk 2077, i don’t care how small your diagonals are. more lucidly explained;”DLSS is an acronym for Deep Learning Super Sampling and it is an Nvidia RTX feature that uses artificial intelligence to boost a game’s framerate performance higher, coming in handy when your GPU is struggling with intensive workloads, “like when your getting microstutter on a 10 year old game.” when using DLSS, your GPU essentially generates an image at a lower resolution to lessen the strain on the hardware, and then it adds additional pixels to upscale the picture to the desired resolution, using AI to determine what the final image should look like. “as opposed to using it to make pretty websites for businesses they can’t run,” and as many of us will know, bringing your GPU down to a lower resolution will result in a significant frame rate boost, which is what makes DLSS technology so appealing, as you’re getting both high frame rates and a high resolution. right now, DLSS is only available on Nvidia RTX graphics cards, including both the 20-Series and 30-Series. AMD does have its solution to this problem. FidelityFX Super Resolution provides a very similar service and is supported on AMD graphics cards.” now i’m almost 50 and i write this blog off the top of my head for free. with the occasional steam discount i will swear. how do you think i feel about these idiots that have chatGPT blogs. getting all types of paid i guess. whatever. i don’t understand this fully and it’s probably going to price me out of the computer gaming market but it’s still an exciting time. for now, i can finally play this lazy as hell port of one of my favorite games even though everybody plays a part if they want to stay in… but a decade beamdog? the truth of the matter being that they did spend eight years on the texture pack i’ll give them that. with DLSS mostly implemented in these games nowadays 21:9 monitors are no longer a hex, and, granted i’m using the patch beamdog distributed not steam… my game is running @ a 300hz average according to my razer cortex app. with neverwinter nights 2 on the horizon will we finally be sated before we are priced out of the hobby we love by our own avarice? only time will tell.

peace,

the ummi
