i was going to start this off with From soft serve, which makes fairly good mods with a few issues in dark souls two yet you’ll probably be surprised how the mods i’ve quoted in this entry work if you have some “skin in the game.” as the young toughs like to say it. reinstalling DS2LightingEngine once again after everything is already installed usually solves the CTD problem for me ymmv. so, anyways, i decided to see what some of the alternative mods for the first dark souls were and i found a mod with a similar name, possible programmed by the same collective but that called out to me in a different vein… i do believe i did mention that the mod is twice the size of the game and from what i’m seeing not bloat, impressive… but from the message… not splash screen… at the beginning of the game this thing is begging me to play it even though i did a clean install and the From soft serve logo remains, maybe it’s my steam cloud, if it is a deluxe edition of a mod for the remastered version of dark souls class doesn’t even describe it… if so, again, good on you soft serve. and before i forget, the mod is 15gig and just needs a steamworks copy of dark souls one remastered. after that, there should be instructions for the extraction and the drag and drop installation of the mod, you heard me right. drag and drop, and from what i’ve played through, its dark souls one inside of dark souls three if that’s your thing, and it definitely mine… only trust nexus mods, and its called dark souls refined, with the serendipity of the highly poison resistant thief armor in the first game… i found myself actually enjoying trekking through blight town, with their robust mod and a little bit of durante, they specialize in tasteful shader and graphical upres transformations… and i think they do good work. i promise you i’ll get to two later, i just hope i’m not getting anyone out of sorts if you will. full transparency, i did purchase the troubled original p.c. games when they first came out and given the lower recommended specs went through the enb’s and the texture mods and finished one and damn near finished two but it seemed like something was missing and like i said, the pieces of the puzzle have finally come together as i’m playing through the first 10 percent of the game, i mean both but all three versions offer an ip with all the dlc included. with its chrome shine the original dark souls was a different beast, no more. i like this sepia, dark souls three look as applied to dark souls one, it screams to me that i am playing in the sandbox of a professional, perfecto. by the way the name of my new favorite dark souls one mod perfecto. as a person who works for perks, if From was working on this like i always say good on them, its beautiful. let’s back track now to before my attentions got seriously diverted by this gem of a mod. now i suspect because the original developers upped the fps on the original dark souls two to 60fps that From soft serve’s project was ongoing with the final aim being this ip … so why not include the incredible textile physics of bloodborne and dark souls three because we developed the technology, case closed because i’m sure dark souls two didn’t look like that in 2014, same thing for the quality of the shaders… at the end of the day, its the little things that are really big things. my gripe is, why must we install this mod ourselves? do you want people to have the choice to play the inferior version of this game? i knew it was something about it, and that was it. so do as you do, mod your game and relive moments like that pulse pounding duel with the pursuer. the flame particle fragments in the air as this phantom with a huge broadsword takes uncanny swings at you and, depending on the class that you had chosen at the beginning of the game, you came away exhilarated or broken. i am thoroughly enjoying this game right now. i was never a player vs. player dark souls enthusiast. name one. i thought it was stupid at the time. i thought COD made way more sense than these little punks running around engaging in medieval combat and feeling strong. that was just the stupidest thing in the world to me. probably because i was horrible at it, even though From has to a certain extent brought it back and that’s good on them even though they did it like four years ago so that ship has probably sailed already but the pvp had a bunch of fans. me personally, i am a graphics whore, and maybe it’s just me, but this little mod called DS2LightingEngine that you can get at nexus mods basically makes this game into what we expected it to be when we saw the original trailers for DS2 and were sorely disappointed with the finished product. i recommend pairing it with a good texture override mod like the second sin visual mod also available on nexus mods and the folder will be created when the game is first launched, just follow the instructions to best of your ability, even if you install the mod manually installation basically involves placing some files and configs in the folder that the game creates the first time you load it. it’s fairly but not totally forgiving that way. there is also a mod named InfiniDetailLE which extends the draw distance considerably when paired with DS2LightingEngine to the point where you can see the lost bastille from majula if you couldn’t before, never thought to look. that, you can install with the DS2LightingEngine (the LE version that i have listed) the standalone non le version will break your game if you install it along with DS2LightingEngine and i realize that there are a bunch of young smalls out there that don’t know how to completely delete a modded game once it’s broken so be careful. that folder and this functionality conclusively prove that From cares but kind of doesn’t… these mods are a serious godsend if your pockets are kind of light and you remember the days of kool aid and inept piracy to becoming competent piracy. it’s similar to dark souls refined but since Sony basically burned mr. miyazaki with dark souls two it’s not homogenous. it has a beautiful color palette with these mods installed correctly and cloth physics and i promise you another enthusiastic playthrough of that game. that’s the thing i love about p.c. gaming… they expect us to eat crap and we just counted backwards. the community made your game great, even though with ray tracing, fantasy inducing bloom and what seems like a nice touch of the cloth physics that you introduced in bloodborne, its not that oversaturated, halfway done vga visual style that it entered the game with. developers, at least in the reality i inhabit, are starting to get the fact that subtle god ray, dreamscape bloom is not a bad thing and ray tracing has brought it back with a sublime vengeance and i personally feel that it wears that dress fresh as the “black sheep but how you like me now.” to me it has this beautiful matte based in ubiquitous sunshine digital shaders, with cloth billowing in the breeze and iron shining in the sunlight. i’m curious, but this game is just as aggravating as it’s now apparent peers, if not more. it’s not that played out enb trash that only works on the second level of the game, areas have been combed through, effects have been tastefully applied, like i said this game now resembles its peer group, not some stepchild that mr. miyazaki halfway claimed minimal creative control on because he had his arm twisted behind his back on hp lovecraft debauchery and sony pressing him for another exclusive hit. i might keep you posted, i might not… i reserve that right. i have informed you of the fact that dark souls two scholar of the first sin is, begrudgingly saying this, a justifiable purchase at 40$ if you have a decent knowledge of how to mod a game and a justifiable upgrade at $20 dollars if you have the original on steam and ditto but fact being is that the community made it so and its over a decade old plus, you people do realize that christmas isn’t for another 7 months right? also, you need to dust off that digital copy of dark souls remastered and add that dark souls refined mod to that, surprisingly rough on the hardware though so proceed with caution. however, if you have no problem modding your games… you’ve never seen god rays until you’ve seen ray traced god rays. now combined, and like i said, fairly forgiving to install DS2LightingEngine, InfiniDetailLE and Scholar of the Second Sin Visual Mod making this game a truly beautiful experience if you have the hardware to drive it which isn’t low end but serviceable. if you have fun tell ’em ummi sent you.
New namco logo… full game overhauls!
