Is it self-hatred to dislike the texture of my hair?

i know this is way left… i expect my caucasian readers to gloss over this. i don’t expect to be taken seriously to think less of my sisters in positions of power who wear wigs or elaborate weaves but consider this, Kamala Harris was half indian and had a grade of hair which was receptive to a fairly weak perm. think about barack obama, although being half white never having anything but brush waves because i refuse to believe any corporate white man would respect a negro who slept with a stocking cap on his head. if you’re fortunate enough to pass and enjoy the ease of doing so if your accepted and not whored have you ever been at a party and been given the “hose test” to see if your heavily gelled curls held up to the racist standard of being doused in water? dreadlocks are cool, but have you ever considered that they were just a nouveaux primitive way of getting our hair to grow down our backs like caucasian hair does? madame c.j. walker was one of the first black millionaires, her fortune built off of a line of hair care products designed to manage and straighten our horrible locs, probably enabled by outsourced apothecaries and snake oil salesman twisting and extending the lie. she was nominally a millionaire before women’s suffrage and died a year before it was realized, yes, exactly… the woman… first black woman millionaire, arguably first black millionaire… died before she could vote. (pause.) i hate to do it but that’s how all the kiddies communicate these days. but nevermind that at the same time black men were still being regularly lynched in the south. so believe in the validity of that achievement if you want because they just showed us what was really good in 2025, J technically being the last one standing. i’d like to make a fugue state, fever dream statement… b.s. claims of being athletically superior aside, because y’all love that b-ball, but the concept of hurling a baseball at 60 to 90 miles an hour and jackknifing your body to create the desired kinetic entropy and gripping and spinning it in different ways so it travels in different paths over the plate puts things in perspective. so, we all have our “gifts.” or baseball is just too expensive for most black kids to play. the fact of the matter is that everybody thinks that we look better with a curl to our hair is because God made us that way. exhibit A, although part caucasian, tia mowry, looking fierce with her curly perm afro and a woman who needs no introduction with her well endowed thick, old school “hot comb” doo which alot of y’all have no idea qualifies as “good hair.” or that’s a hell of a perm. did you know they sold “Michelle Obama” wigs? now you do.

there is so much that has transpired in our history that i’m not going to postulate because i don’t want to be pigeonholed as an “angry black man schizo,” but we are the only race on this miserable rock that has this tightly coiled, resistant hair and i also refuse to go for the b.s. that states that it makes evolutionary sense, because there are examples all over the carribean (another story that you would have to get from a sage native,) that have beautiful, lustrous, curly hair. so what i’m saying is, you got to Satan first, you win… now if you read me, you’re used to me backtracking and vacillating, making even less sense every time i do so, but… with most black hair textures, especially if they’re permed… it weakens the strength of the hair shaft. i’m watching meet the press now and rethinking things and ms. welker would have to wrap her hair up to tan without damaging it, same for ex vice president harris. working with what God intended to give you is not self-hatred in my opinion. but i swear, every time i see one of these long-wigged barbies on the news yappin’ a mile a minute, or with her head on the chopping block thinking it’s going to advance her career by attempting to completely destroy a caucasian man who is connected as AT&T and clearly not her peer under the impression that some bleeding heart caucus is going to come to her rescue, (same 300$ wig on)… i dry heave a bit. so joking, but there being no jokes… do you and get that hair mamma, we ain’t mad at you. heartbroken maybe… but in the rebuke of michelle obama as a distant observer of what ghetto life really means. “it is what it is.”

a quick addendum from microsoft copilot…

did madame c.j. walker die before she got to vote?

Absolutely — the timeline lines up very clearly.
đź“… Short Answer
Yes. Madam C.J. Walker died in 1919, one year before the 19th Amendment (women’s suffrage) was ratified in 1920.
She passed away on May 25, 1919 .

🧭 Why This Matters

  • Women’s suffrage (19th Amendment) was ratified on August 18, 1920.
  • Walker’s death in 1919 means she did not live to see the national expansion of voting rights to women.
  • And importantly, even after 1920, many Black women were still disenfranchised due to Jim Crow laws until the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

it is also quite interesting that, even though women’s suffrage affected all women, they didn’t get to vote until the 20th century. from what i see, white men with some stipulations (because it wouldn’t be this planet without prejudice.) have been voting since 1776. i’m not one to do it but there’s stuff you don’t get about the way we should feel but still show love. don’t “jump up to get beat down.” it’s like invasion of the body snatchers out here. where was mr. pres. after poking his chest out for literally destroying a nation within the space of a month and then launching an impossible space mission? that’s why the God’s gave up on us. stop exploring there’s nothing for you to see.
